PETALING JAYA, May 13 (ES) – People’s Justice Party (KeADILan) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Pakatan coalition forming the federal government anytime from now to September is a “certainty”.

He however did not ruled out the possibility that the ruling coalition would dissolve the parliament and call for a fresh general election to bar Pakatan from forming the federal government.

In a press conference held at his office here May 12, he however expressed confidence that the ruling coalition National Front would be trounced if fresh elections were called.

Anwar however had a hard time explaining to the press on whether the move could be considered “moral”. He justified the move by contending that the general election had not been conducted in a free and fair manner.

Despite repeated questions from the press, Anwar also failed to specify the date for the change of government to take place apart from saying that it would be done according to the Constitution and provision of laws.

He also said that the main component ruling party UMNO, is too “panicky” at the moment and prone to resorting to “racial” sentiments and that he is waiting for the “right time”.

 

The Pakatan Rakyat coalition comprised of Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS), the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and KeADILan currently hold 82 out of the 222 seats after the March 8 general election.

On another matter, Anwar welcomed the submission of the report of the Royal Commission on the Lingam video clip on judicial fixing to the King.

He also called for a full publication of the report to the public.

He said if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi was serious about judicial reform, the he should take the report to its “logical culmination” which is the investigation and prosecution of those who the report deemed to have deviated from the course of justice. – Saadon Aksah/ES

KUALA LUMPUR, May 11 (ES) - A Pakatan Rakyat (Pakatan) parliamentary member (MP) told the august house on May 8 that the coalition will soon form the federal government but a senior ruling party MP dismissed the possibility.

 ”We are certain that the second phase of the political tsunami will happen anytime soon,” People Justice Party (PKR) parliamentary member Azmin Ali told a convening house.

In a speech to debate the Royal Address, Azmin who is also PKR vice president, said the encouragement and support from “our friends” and the people would ensure that the coalition would be able to form the federal government.

Several quarters had expressed the possibility of Pakatan forming government in September.

The Pakatan coalition comprises of Islamic Party of Malaysia (PAS), the Democratic Action Party (DAP) and PKR currently controlled 82 seats in the 222 seat parliamentary house.

PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said over 30 MPs from the ruling coalition had expressed interest to cross over to enable the Pakatan coalition to oust current National Front (BN) ruling coalition headed by embattled Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi.

No comment

Azmin’s assertion came against a backdrop of expressed concern by former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir Mohamad on May 7 of such a possibility. 

However former Finance Minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who is also the ruling coalition MP from Gua Musang rejected such a possibility.

“BN is not unstable,” he told a mob of journalists at the Parliament lobby.

Told that BN were perceived as such, Razaleigh said it was just a “matter of perception”.

Asked that the Pakatan Rakyat would be able to wrest control of the Federal government, Razaleigh replied: “I hope not”.

DAP secretary general Lim Guan Eng, who is also Penang Chief Minister and Bagan parliamentary member declined to comment on Azmin’s assertion.
